Goals
Our educational program meets each student’s intellectual, cultural, physical, artistic, and spiritual needs. Our goal is to train and equip young people for a life of service to God, based on II Timothy 3:16 and 17, “All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
The Preschool Child: Our Education Philosophy
We understand that a preschool child can know that God loves him. We understand that God created each child with the ability to know and love God. We teach preschool children to talk to God by praying, to learn about God by hearing Bible stories, and to praise God by singing.
We understand that young children learn by touching, smelling, tasting, seeing and hearing. What may look like “just play” to an adult is actually serious learning! Preschool children are not “short first graders”. They learn differently! Because young children are concrete learners, they do not quickly understand symbolism. Letters, numbers, and even colors, are symbols.
A young child may be able to sing the ABC song or memorize how to count to ten or even recognize a letter of the alphabet, but they do not understand what a letter or a number is. They don’t understand the concept of numbers and letters. We believe that paper and pencil methods are the least effective way to help young children understand these concepts.
The best way to teach and help young children experience and enjoy learning is by using music, games, play, art, pretend, books and other sensory methods.
We also believe it is very important to build a strong foundation for all future learning by helping our students learn self-control, to build a longer attention span, to learn to listen, focus, and follow directions and to cooperate with others. By helping our students develop these characteristics, they will be enabled and empowered to be successful learners!
Age of Eligibility
In order to comply with Arizona State Law, a child must be three years old before the first day of school to enter preschool and four before the first day of school to enter the Pre-Kindergarten Class.
Curriculum
Our 3 and 4 year old class uses our customized Christian curriculum, which includes ABC Bible Verses, pre-reading activities, Spanish, and handson math. We use Arizona’s Educational Standards as our guidelines. The preschool day includes circle time, centers (blocks, art, dramatic play etc.) structured activities, exercise time, snack and age appropriate Chapel time. Also, we work on developing the attention span, following directions and training in social skills to help prepare the preschool child for kindergarten.
Students will attend Chapel, field trips, and music.
